<p>When it comes to video projection installations, <a href="http://www.antivj.com/" target="_blank">AntiVJ</a> are pretty far ahead of most of the world with only a few exceptions. They make giant <a href="http://vimeo.com/10176661" target="_blank">sculptures come to life</a>, allow viewers to enter inside <a href="http://vimeo.com/32935093" target="_blank">columns of shifting white light</a>, conjure <a href="http://vimeo.com/13391361" target="_blank">holographic screens</a> of color, and more. Of course, they&#8217;re a European collective, leaving most Americans to gawk at internet videos or maybe once a year catch some corporatized version of similar engineering. However, the group&#8217;s director, <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/JoanieLemercier" target="_blank">Joanie Lemercier</a>, is here in New York right now. He&#8217;s responsible for the video above, which features a room-sized 3D topographical map that dips and glows with the depth of a master painting come to life. Currently, one of his works is on display in Brooklyn at the <a href="http://murielguepingallery.com/" target="_blank">Muriel Guepin Gallery</a> until April 15th. You can also catch him speaking next Thursday in Chelsea <a href="http://eyebeam.org/press/eblast/items/2012-03/artist-talk-antivj" target="_blank">at Eyebeam</a>. </p>

<p>Emotions rise like a new sun in the night sky, brightening the darkness just enough to enjoy its eccentricities. Electric rattles roll, skipping over stuttering kicks and echoed rims. Comforting vocals waft with a smokey glow; subs ripple the very air; and xylo pads glitter high above. <a href="http://soundcloud.com/araemusic" target="_blank">Arae</a> brings his unique touch to Brooklyn by way of an aesthetic bond with London, landing in a warm circle of similar minds like the local <a href="http://soundcloud.com/sleepyhead" target="_blank">Sleepyhead</a> and <a href="http://soundcloud.com/dunes-2" target="_blank">Dunes</a>. Catch them all tonight at <a href="http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=166213906799833">Broke City</a> along with the grimier styles of <a href="http://soundcloud.com/messkid" target="_blank">Messkid</a>. <em>(Image by <a href="http://justinmezzell.com/" target="_blank">Justin Mezzell</a>.)</em></p>

Also on the list is <a href="http://www.djrekha.com" target="_blank">DJ Rekha</a>, who blessed us with this mixtape to support the party. It&#8217;s nice to see the Desi sound featured at a global club party, because it&#8217;s a bit underrepresented. &#8220;It is its own scene, but the music deserves a wider dance music audience,&#8221; she says. &#8220;In general, DJs and audiences would be better served by some genre blurring.&#8221; Tomorrow Rekha will rinse a similar blend of traditional bhangra sounds with contemporary club music as the mix below &#8211; all depending on the crowd, of course. And if you for some reason miss this party, you can always catch her alongside <a href="http://www.thefader.com/author/ehoughton/" target="_blank">Eddie Stats</a> at the weekly Basement Bhangra parties at <a href="http://www.sobs.com/" target="_blank">SOB&#8217;s</a>, as Wyclef reminds us at the end of the mix. Tracklist after the jump. <em>(Photo by <a href="http://www.behance.net/qasimroy" target="_blank">Qasim Naeem</a>.)</em></p>

<p>When <a href="http://turrbotax.wordpress.com/" target="_blank">Turrbotax</a> first started, New York most definitely needed a party that focused on the percussive, housier side of bass music. And with their <a href="http://www.xlr8r.com/events/2010/07/turrbotax-one-year-anniversary-w" target="_blank">one-year-anniversary party coming up this Friday</a>, it continues to grow increasingly relevant. Like always, they hit us off with the freebies this month &#8211; you can get in free if you show up before 11PM. And as is standard, free Asahi will be handed out. <a href="http://www.myspace.com/toddedwards" target="_blank">Todd Edwards</a>, Jersey&#8217;s garage OG, will be headlining the night, backed by New York&#8217;s next garage star, <a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/FaltyDL/19555184680" target="_blank">Falty DL</a>.</p>
<p>To celebrate, we&#8217;ve got this nice funky mixtape flipped by <a href="http://www.myspace.com/maysternyc" target="_blank">Mayster</a>, one of the <a href="http://bushwickbk.com/2010/06/02/us-funky-a-blank-slate-at-tandem/" target="_blank">Turrbotax</a> residents. What to expect from it? City destroying stabs, global drums, sneaky syncopation, and jump tempos. Tracklisting after the jump. <em>(Image by <a href="http://www.jesar-one.com/" target="_blank">Heiko Klug</a>.)</em></p>

<p>It&#8217;s dusk in the rain forest and the last remnants of light glow in the mist. Darkness is soon to come along with all that its enclosure entails. Fast deep drums and haunting synths are a mainstay for these two acts, and them coming together tomorrow for a night of it is <a href="http://www.dubstepforum.com/sat-july-10th-forecast-recordings-launch-party-t146659.html" target="_blank">an event to catch</a> &#8211; if you live in the Bay Area anyway. </p>
<p>Costa Rican badmen <a href="http://www.myspace.com/thecosmetics" target="_blank">Cosmetics</a> are celebrating the release of their eerie stomper &#8220;Ratas&#8221; on <a href="http://forecast-recordings.com/" target="_blank">Forecast Recordings</a>, and <a href="http://www.myspace.com/djunya" target="_blank">Djunya</a> is joining them to add flames to the bonfire. On <em><a href="http://bassmusicblog.com/culture-system-mix" target="_blank">King of the Flies</a></em>, we featured &#8220;Ratas&#8221; alongside Djunya&#8217;s unreleased &#8220;On The Verge,&#8221; so our support for their pairing has already been voiced. </p>
<p>But the flames don&#8217;t stop there, and below we point you toward a couple other treats. First, there&#8217;s &#8220;Left Click,&#8221; a funky joint for the brooding Ticas, which Cosmetics are gonna drop on <a href="http://brapdem.com/wordpress/" target="_blank">Brap Dem</a> shortly. The duo also have a couple mixes y&#8217;all might want to peep. <a href="http://soundcloud.com/s0n1ka/" target="_blank">.s0n!ka.</a> flipped a <a href="http://soundcloud.com/s0n1ka/forecast-promo-mix" target="_blank">Forecast promo mix</a> and <a href="http://soundcloud.com/ufo55555" target="_blank">UFO!</a> laced <a href="http://mediacontender.com/2010/07/06/interesting-times-version-6-ufo/" target="_blank">Club Muse</a> with his own. Both feature the track &#8220;Comfort Kills,&#8221; which we can&#8217;t wait to get our grubby little hands on. Next, there&#8217;s the Djunya produced &#8220;Ancient Technology,&#8221; a driving and spooky trip through South Asian terrains riddled with bandits. It features live instrumentation by <a href="http://www.myspace.com/lynxandjanover" target="_blank">Janover and lyrics by Lynx</a>. $1 dollar at Bandcamp, dunnies! <em>(Image by <a href="http://www.behance.net/ArtemSukhinin" target="_blank">Artem Sukhinin</a>.)</em></p>

<p>ATL&#8217;s <a href="http://soundcloud.com/distal" target="_blank">Distal</a> and <a href="http://soundcloud.com/mite/tracks" target="_blank">Mite</a> are swinging through the area as a part of their mini-tour, which coincides with the recent launching of their new label, <a href="http://embassyrecordings.com/" target="_blank">Embassy Records</a>. The two produce an array of music as broad as the diverse bass scene of their hometown, flipping anything from future garage, to g-funk bass filth, to techstep. In anticipation, we figured posting this collaboration of theirs, an early version of &#8220;Forgotten Formula&#8221;, would be appropriate. The drop at 1:35 where the bass drums become the focus and lead into those RoboCup claps gets us every time. Catch them in the Lower East Side <a href="http://www.facebook.com/?ref=logo#!/event.php?eid=111896052171160" target="_blank">on Tuesday at Broken Teeth</a> or <a href="http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=272918216697" target="_blank">Watchtower Wobble on Saturday</a> in New Paltz. <em>(<a href="http://seedmagazine.com/slideshow/a_green_world/#2" target="_blank">Photo</a> by Art Wolfe for SEED Magazine.)</em></p>

<p>Got a few mixes here y&#8217;all might want to check. Follow the links for tracklistings.</p>
<p>First up is <a href="http://www.myspace.com/thecrookedclef" target="_blank">Crooked Clef</a>&#8216;s <a href="http://www.trashmenagerie.com/blog/2009/12/09/mittelschmerz/" target="_blank">Mittelschmerz</a>. We&#8217;re not sure why he named this mix after pain related to the menstrual cycle, but dude reaps a mood of havoc on this one. Rooted in dubstep, the mix evokes a mysteriously idle clear cutting operation in the rainforest, where tractors sit vacant but the sound of their action still stains the air. Rather than straying into bassline bangers or the mid range wobblery that so often draws comparisons to rock, Clef chooses to explore the sonic relations of atmospheric industrial. Most of the tracks strike a mood and ride it, but the mix rarely lingers on a song longer than two minutes, which keeps it interesting.</p>
<p><center></center></p>
<p>Next up is a shuffle-filled dance <a href="http://soundcloud.com/turrbotax/saputotime-turrbotax-r-mini-mix-1" target="_blank">mix</a> by <a href="http://saputotime.wordpress.com/" target="_blank">Saputotime</a>. Dude played much of this mix at the last <a href="http://turrbotax.wordpress.com/2009/12/08/december-turrbotax%C2%AE-photos/" target="_blank">Turrbotax</a> party, where he&#8217;s a resident. It&#8217;s impossible not to move to this sound. Although some of the breakdowns were a bit long and there were strained stretches of loopyness, his selection was a refreshing perspective on what makes a New York dance floor raise the roof. <a href="http://soundcloud.com/turrbotax/saputotime-turrbotax-r-mini-mix-1/download" target="_blank"><em>Download here</em></a>.</p>
<p><center><object height="81" width="500"><param name="movie" value="http://player.soundcloud.com/player.swf?url=http%3A%2F%2Fsoundcloud.com%2Fturrbotax%2Fsaputotime-turrbotax-r-mini-mix-1&amp;show_comments=false&amp;auto_play=false&amp;color=330000"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param> <embed allowscriptaccess="always" height="81" src="http://player.soundcloud.com/player.swf?url=http%3A%2F%2Fsoundcloud.com%2Fturrbotax%2Fsaputotime-turrbotax-r-mini-mix-1&amp;show_comments=false&amp;auto_play=false&amp;color=330000" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="500"></embed></object></center></p>
<p>Finally, we just want to make sure no one slept on <a href="http://www.myspace.com/douster" target="_blank">Douster</a>&#8216;s <a href="http://www.xlr8r.com/podcast/2009/10/douster" target="_blank">XLR8R mix</a>. Since it&#8217;s untitled, we&#8217;ll call it <em>Tropical Storm Douster</em>. We&#8217;re a bit late posting it, but this is a gem. It&#8217;s a hype blend of hip hop with European club and tropical dance styles that will leave you covered in sweat like you got caught in the downpour. (Sorry, we can&#8217;t stream the mixes hosted at XLR8R.) <em>Photo by <a href="http://www.core77.com/blog/object_culture/german_heavy_machinery_fetish_calendar_gives_you_more_bau_for_the_buck_15456.asp?utm_source=feedburner&#038;utm_medium=feed&#038;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+core77%2Fblog+%28Core77.com%27s+design+blog%29" target="_blank">Marcus Mumbach</a></em>.</p>

<p> We got a couple tracks for you for the <a href="http://www.seclusiasis.com/" target="_blank">Seclusiasis</a> dudes that will be there. First, <a href="http://www.myspace.com/dev79" target="_blank">Dev79</a> hit us off with an MPFree of his new Raffertie remix. And we got the stream of a nasty <a href="http://www.myspace.com/killerecords" target="_blank">Ghost</a> joint that we can&#8217;t wait to see a certain rapper bless. </p>
