How is it that people who specialize in making cartoons which seem to require psychedelics to be understood manage to put out good mixtapes? (And free ones, at that.) Last year, Adult Swim put out the unassailable Ghostly Swim, and now they drop ATL Mix. This new release features remixes of rappers from Atlanta. While a number of the songs are your basic, “take this track and make an electro banger out of it,” there’s mos def some stuff on there that moves the game forward. The prime example of this is Chris Devoe‘s remix of Pill. On this track, Devoe takes his ethereal, dreamlike style, and pushes it into more suspenseful, nightmarish realms.
