On Stage at Love

Quick post for y’all. Video of Boosted at Love from January. Videos from the club are usually terrible, but this isn’t bad. And it offers a good look at what goes on behind the boards there. 6blocc, Enkryption Projekt, Nebulla, Dore, Bisc 1, and Human (maybe).

Music of Snakes in the Grass

Raz Mesinai, otherwise known as Badawi, is a dude who travels through many worlds. He produces dubstep, but also writes scores for films and has his compostions played by Kronos Quartet in Carnegie Hall. He lives in New York, but also Jerusalem. So it’s no surprise that his music is as well traveled as he is.

We’ll take it back to ’02 for this joint. It’s name, “The Scorpion and the Serpent,” is a perfect description for the mood and setting. Badawi delivers an extensive melody with a Middle Eastern string over a driving, popping rhythm. The cut itself could be pegged to a number of genres, but why bother. It comes from the album Soldier of Midian, which is reportedly comprised of samples of his own live instrumentation.

Central Asian Covers

A Central Asian cover of the Mission Impossible theme using traditional instruments and traditional forms of singing. What more can we say? Well, it’s surprisingly good, for one thing. You can cop the whole album of Western pop song covers for free at Last.fm (all except for the Mettalica cover, what with Metallica being Metallica and all…) Outs to Sound Roots for catching this.
