Caribou (Not ANWR Related)

Now, you might notice - if you actually cared to look - that the other work by the artists I write about is not usually on the same level as the particular song I post about. Caribou is no exception.

But this song, "Hello Hammerhead," from the 2005 album, The Milk of Human Kindness, still catches my interest while other songs I’ve found at around the same time have not. Not particularly melodic or complex, "Hammerheads" manages to be gripping with its rhythmic acoustic guitar loops, and over dubbed lyrics and humming solos.While I couldn’t find evidence of a presence on the web (sorry, no MP3), the song "The Barn," from the 2005 Marino EP is also great. Even better. This song is more intricate and electronic than "Hammerheads." It combines a folky instrumentation - which provides the foundation of the track - with a fuzzy, shoegazing variety of electronic goodness. I recommend copping it off iTunes. In case you were wondering about the reference to ANWR: it’s an acronym for Artic National Wildlife Reserve, where much caribou reside. According to Wikipedia, the dude who is the band came up with the name while on acid, not in attempt to communicate a passion for an issue.
