Music From the Destruction of the Rainforest

Coldcut doesn’t stick to just one genre, and these songs, in collaboration with Hexstatic, are a case in point. These songs take samples from life and make them into music.

“Timber” takes sounds from the destruction of the rainforest and weaves them into a great track. The video is edited to match the samples from the song, too.

“Natural Rhythms” takes wildlife samples for its feel. Interesting, but not as good as “Timber”. This video is also edited to the beat.

This remix of “Timber” is hot.

I Want My NTV!

I didn’ really watch MTV all that much when it actually showed videos, but now there’s even less of a reason to watch it: NTV (Ninja Tune Video). Lots of good videos from the always interesting label.
This video is Coldcut’s “True Skool”. It’s British hip hop, and the sample is from something out of Bollywood… really. The kid who re-posted it on YouTube says that when the Zune came out, it had this video already on it. Funny, the video looks like something from an iPod ad.

And on the Zune tip, I came across this a long time ago: It’s called Awaire. Its an mp3 player that lets you network with other Awaire users like the Zune. It actually won Microsoft’s 2004 Design Expo.

Electrango

I really should be writing something other than this blog post - like what I get paid to write about - but I just got eMusic, and I’m on the music tip right now. I got this new Gotan Project video for you: "Diferente". They’s famous for fusing tango with downbeat, and this song, full of flavor, just adds to the recipe. So happy holidays. Oh, and click here to watch a couple other videos, or listen to the songs on their profile.

Even MORE Media Consolidation

Remember - back in the day - when you could actually listen to the radio and find new music? Sure, now we have the internet, but radio died long before most people figured out how to use it for music, and many still don’t.
Now the Federal Communication Commission is proposing new rules that will allow companies to own even more media outlets than before, putting more stations (as well as newspapers and TV stations) into even fewer hands.
Take a second to write them and tell them you don’t like the idea by clicking here.

Don’t read? Watch this video from Consumers Union. The “big media tower” is creepy as hell with its lord of the rings floating eye.
